The
'Sleepover Club' was created by Rose Impey. She came up wth the whole
concept and created the characters of Frankie, Kenny, Lyndz, Fliss and
Rosie. They are five girls who love having fun but who always end up in
mischief! And because they love having sleepovers they form their own
club. I loved thinking up new and crazy adventures for them to get involved
in. I was lucky enough to write 13 books for the series and truly thought
of the characters as friends!
Sleepover
Girls Go Gymnastic
This
was the last book I wrote for the series. It sees the girls involved in
a gymnastic competition - rather reluctantly on Lyndz's part. Whilst they
are practising for that they also have the small matter of their SATs
to contend with - and as Fliss is rather more concerned with the competition
than her revision it spells serious trouble when her mum is on the warpath.
You DO NOT want to cross Fliss's mum!
Other
Sleepover titles include:
Happy New Year Sleepover Club!
This is one of the two favourite books I wrote for the series. It is about
the New Year's Eve party Fliss's mum is planning - with the girls' help.
There is just so much happening in it and I loved building everything
up to the chaotic finale where Frankie's mum gives birth to Izzy. I have
to admit that I always loved writing about Fliss's mum, she was just so
neurotic and OTT. And of course she was working herself up into a real
old state over the party so the whole book was just great fun to write.
Sleepover
Club Goes For Goal
This was my other favourite book. Like Kenny I love football, (although
I can't even kick the ball for my dog!) And the thought of the five-a-side
tournament with the girls competing in it, well that had so much potential
for things to go wrong. Of course Kenny has a hard time persuading the
others to compete to start with and then there are all sorts of other
problems along the way. You often hear writers say, 'Oh the book just
wrote itself'! Well this was probably the one time in my career when that
was true!
Sleepover
Club Vampires
I will always remember writing this book because I had to do a lot of
research about bats for it. The book is about the five girls going to
stay with Kenny's great uncle in Scotland. They are convinced that his
house is haunted so there are lots of spooky goings-on. And of course
they get to try out their 'vampire-slaying' moves! Until I wrote this
I didn't really know much about bats and I must admit that I was a bit
scared of them. Now I think they are wonderful creatures and I always
feel thrilled when I see them swooping about at dusk on Wimbledon Common.

This
book includes tips and hints on sending text messages, sending emails
and using the internet in general. It was great fun to write and the illustrations
by Kate Sheppard are just perfect. I have the original of the chocolates
coming out of the computer screen - if only!

I had a story, 'Messy Jessie', included in this collection which was available
as a book and audiotape pack. 'Messy Jessie' is about a little girl who
is ALWAYS getting messy - she can't help it. When it is her birthday her
mum dresses her in her party dress and says she has to stay clean - so
she puts her mackintosh and wellingtons over the top and gets very messy
indeed. But her party dress stays nice and clean - until it's time for
tea. Jessie thinks she might cry when she sees her lovely dress covered
in ketchup and jelly, until she sees that all her friends are messy too!
It was such a thrill for me to have this story included in a collection
which included stories by people like Tony Bradman!

(Stephen Thraves and Fiona Cummings) Published
by Hodder Children's Books
(out of print)
This was the first book I had published. It was part of Stephen's Adventure
Game Book series. These were great books which involved reading and playing
a game at the same time. After each paragraph you had decisions to make
which determined which paragraph you read next. Along the way you had
to take photographs and collect parts of an adventure kit. The reader's
aim was to take the maximum of 6 photographs showing ghosts, this would
then prove that the village in the book was haunted. Each time you read
the book you would read a slightly different story depending upon the
decisions you made. It was amazingly clever, but that was definitely down
to Stephen who planned it all, I had the easy job of doing the writing!!
